About the slogan "We Shall Overcome", by Álvaro Largo (Av2 MON, 2008-2009)
"... a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "We Shall Overcome"..."
Do you remember these words from Obama's speech in the Election Night?
Here is what I found out about this issue:
"We Shall Overcome" is the most important political protest song of all-time sung around the world wherever people fight for justice and quality. Originally a Baptist hymn (gospel composed in 1901 by Rev. Charles Tindley), it was brought into the labor movement in the 1930s, and popularized among Civil Rights workers in the 1950s at the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee.
