Obama's President-Elect Speech Outline by Azucena Pintado Peño (Av2 TUES, 2008-2009)

1. Change has come to America
The first part could include the five first paragraphs. The first one finishes with tonight is your answer, there are three more starting with the same beginning It's the answer… and at the end of fifth paragraph Obama gives the key to the introduction and the speech: change has come to America

2. The thanks part
This part begins with the paragraph I just received a very gracious call… and finishes in But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to –- it belongs to you, thanking the electors and introducing the following part.

3. This is your victory
This part includes the next three paragraphs: I was never the likeliest… up to the sentence which ends in … alliances to repair. He goes from him to the others, especially people in trouble, saying they have won, we are going to take care of all of you, because this is your victory.

4. American people
The paragraph starting with The road ahead could be included in the previous section (as an introduction to this new part) or we could take it as part of this section 4, where Obama talks about the American people: its beginnings, its beliefs (patriotism, liberty…), the difficulties to be solved (with everybody's help) and the previous government. Obama finishes coming back to the key of this section: 'I need your help, and I will your President too'.

5. To the world
The next couple of paragraphs are devoted to the world: America is going to change but it is going to keep on being the leader of all of you.

6. Ann Nixon Cooper or Yes we can
This part starts in This election had many firsts… paragraph, which introduces Ann's story, but the next paragraphs are an overview of the history of this century, a moving speech highlighted by the slogan 'Yes we can'.

7. The end
The last three paragraphs: America, we have come so far… till the end. Obama comes back to the first idea: 'to answer the call', repeats American ideals and insists in the change (Yes, we can). It is the end of the in crescendo which started in the previous part.
