Assorted End-of-course dialogues: On trips, visiting guests, shopping...

The following dialogues were done in class, at the end of the course. The students made them up, also using useful language from dialogues in their textbook. They are outstanding!

Attention, please: These pieces have been corrected again, so that you don't learn incorrect language in the final versions we publish here. On the blog, you can find the original versions with the first correction in italics or block letters. The aim of this second correction is to develop your learning further.

By Olaya and Julia

- Hello, Olaya!
- Hello, Julia. Nice to see you!
- How are you?
- I'm fine, thanks. And you?
- Very well, too. Last weekend I saw Mónica and she told me that you travelled to Kenya, is it true?
- Yes it's true, it was great. Have you ever been to Kenia?
- Oh no, I haven't. Do you have enough money to travel to places like that?
- Oh no! I don't. I won the trip in a TV contest.
- Tell me about your trip, then! When did you travel? Who did you travel with? How did you get there? Did you see many animals?
- Hehehe... Quiet, Julia! OK, let's see. I went to Kenya three weeks ago, my brother came with me, and we got there by plane. There we were travelling by helicopter. It was really wonderful… we could see a lot of animals.
- And… could you fly a helicopter?
- Ooh yes I could! I had a six-day training course to learn how to fly it!!
- Was it easy or difficult?
- It was easy. At first I was frightened but then it was really fantastic!
- Yeah, it sounds fantastic! You are very lucky!
- Would you like to see the photos?
- Oh yes, I'd love to.
- What day would you like to see them?
- Next Friday?
- Next Friday?… That's OK!
- Well! See you then, Olaya!
- Bye Julia!
=D

Waiter: Oh yes. A table for one. Smoking or non-smoking?
Woman: Non-smoking, please.
Waiter: Please follow me…

Waiter: Are you ready to order?
Woman: Yes, thank you. For first course, I'd like pasta with cream cheese and then a traditional roast beef, please.
Waiter: Would you like something to drink?
Woman: A bottle of wine, please.
Waiter: Certainly. Do you prefer red wine or white wine?
Woman: Let me think... I'd like a bottle of champagne.
Waiter: Oh, champagne is delicious. Great choice!
Would you like a dessert?
Woman: Yes, please. I'll have a brownie.
Waiter: Would you like any coffee?
Woman: No, thanks.
Waiter: Anything else?
Woman: Yes, please. Could I have the bill?

- Downstairs there is a garage and a bathroom. Let's see the kitchen!
- Oh! This kitchen is very big and the cupboards are very nice. Are the cupboards included?

Note: In this dialogue there are two kinds of present continuous: one is about the present and the other is about future arrangements (the Impepinable future!).

(A) Hi, my love! You're very busy. What are you doing?
(B) Uf! Hi! Harry and Louise have called us. They're arriving in Madrid, tomorrow. They'll stay here for one day.
(A) Who are they? I don't remember!
(B) Oh! They are my cousins. They have lived in Germany for a long time! You met them when they got married in 1975. Do you remember now?
(A) Not too much, but… why are your cousins flying to Spain?
(B) Because they are retired and they want to buy a house near the sea in Valencia. They are very lucky!
(A) But… what is there in these bags? Can I help you?
(B) Yes, please. There are a lot of fruits and vegetables. They're vegetarian. Can you put them in the fridge?
(A) Yes, I can. Do you know there is just an egg?
(B) Oh, no! I'm going to buy some, quickly! The supermarket closes at nine o'clock. I've got five minutes to get there.
(A) Relax. Don't worry, love. I think we'll go to vegetarian restaurant for lunch and then we can take them sightseeing, too.
(B) That's a better idea! Madrid has changed for them surely! But… we'll eat fruits and vegetables for a month. I'm joking!

- It depends on the size and on the prices.

- What a pity! Can I try it on?
- Certainly! The changing room is over there.
- How does it suit me?
- Very well
- Ok, I'll buy this one. How much is it?
- It's 100€
- Wow! It's always the same. I usually like the most expensive dress in the shop.

- Oh thank you! I hope so!
- I hope to see you again. Have a nice party!

By Mayte, Paqui and Casilda:

Paqui: OK, then. You can go shopping in a lot of areas in Madrid. Serrano street is the best area — you can find the most exclusive shops.
Mayte: And is there any shopping center near here?
Paqui: Oh yes, go straight on and turn left at the traffic lights and then in the second street you can find Shopping Center Príncipe Pío. Shall I repeat?
Mayte: No it's OK: go straight on and turn left at the traffic lights, and then take the second street — it's Shopping Center Príncipe Pío. Thank you.
Casilda: And what about museums?
Paqui: Well, there are a lot of museums in Madrid, they are: the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía, the Thyssen…
Casilda: Where are they?
Paqui: The Prado and Reina Sofia museums are near Atocha, and the Thyssen is between Atocha and Recoletos.
Mayte: What time do they open and close?
Paqui: Daily, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mayte: Thank you very much.
Paqui: Not at all, you are welcome.

Casilda: Yes, there are four carrots, three potatoes, two tomatoes, two onios…
Mayte: Well, thank you, but I have to buy more things, I don't have any milk, any butter, any juice, any cheese… and I have to buy some fruit, too.
Casilda: Yesterday I bought a lot of things and in my fridge now there is some milk, some butter, many kinds of cheese. I have a lot of fruit, there are some pears, some apples and three delicious plums but I don't have any pineapple.
Mayte: Where there many people in the supermarket yesterday?
Casilda: No, there weren't, because we are in a crisis! — people haven't got any money.
