About the Smoke Signals screenplay, by Miriam Galende (Av2 MON, 2008-2009)

It is the first time I have read a script. That's why at the beginning it was quite difficult for me having to imagine not only the action but also the point of view.

But you get used to it soon because the author explains very well how the camera moves. It can move up and down, across and in, move away or to background, it can move through trailer, closer to something or pull away.

On the other hand, you become accustomed to reading a lot of screenwriting terms in their real context. For instance, words like trailer, shooting a scene, wide and close angle, reverse angle, cut and swipe cut, credit rolls; or initials as POV (point of view) or VO (voice over).

Furthermore, you learn some vocabulary related to Indians, like powwow, and, what is more important, something about their life, like what a rez is like or the importance of fry bread in their customs.

Finally I'd like to add that not only have I found the script interesting, but I also think that the scene notes at the end of the book are simply amazing. They help you realize how "cinema people" work, and the difference between the movie that was to be and the movie that resulted.
