Writing an Informal Letter by Valéria da Silveira Souza (Av2 Tues, 2008-09) - About 380 words

Dear Michelle,

Thanks a lot for your last letter and sorry for not answering it before. I wish you could be here with me. Oh, my friend! My life is a real mess. I've just moved from Vitoria to Getafe, so things are not easy now. It's a great challenge for me, my husband and the children. By the way, have you finished your project?

As you can imagine, our life was very different in the Basque Country. Let me tell you what our life was like over there.

I arrived in Vitoria in 2000. Then after one year learning Spanish I started working for an English School as an English teacher. It was amazing because I love teaching children. Oh! Have I told you that I was also a Portuguese teacher? It was because there were lots of companies that have some relationship with Brazilian companies. I'm not keen on teaching adults but there was no choice!

I worked for the same school for seven years. Then when my second baby was born I had to stop working to look after my two children.

When I arrived at Vitoria my husband had been living there for three years and I got used to the city and the people very quickly. The problem that we had was that my husband is from Murcia. He loves the sun and the beach! Two things that don't exist in the Basque Country (or we could not use... I mean, the beach, because of the weather). That's why we are now living in Madrid. This city is closer to Murcia than Vitoria, so he's happier  now.

We have brought our personal things to our new apartment. However, this week we're staying at a hotel because of the children. We are trying to organize everything but it is difficult. That happens because we've got too many things. As you can imagine, not all of them are necessary, but the human being behaves in this way... gather things, buy things, sometimes useless things, and never throw away anything!

I suppose you have some news for me. So, don't wait too much to write me back. I have to go now... You see... the babies are crying. They are both hungry. A mother's life is like this!

Kisses,

Val
