Videos: Reading a chapter from Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Charo Urbano (Avanzado 2 Mon, 2009-2010)

Charo reads a chapter from the novel Avanzado 2 students had to read in the first half of their course. We recorded this video months later, in spring, when she spontaneously volunteered to read the chapter and comment why she liked it so much.

Charo sent her teacher an email later on...

I'm sorry I was tired at the end and I didn't express too much about why I liked the chapter so much. It's not only the tenderness of love, the first love. It's also the feeling of being different from the rest, from all the rest, different on the rez, different at school, so different to Penelope... And the need of being better, to help other people as poor as he is. It's also the moment when he realizes that maybe Rowdy, his all time best friend, is now his enemy. I think this is why I liked it, because it summarizes a great variety of feelings.
