Dear Manager:
After reading your e-mail about labor absenteeism in our company, firstly I would like to thank you for sharing your concern and for encouraging your employees to make proposals to address this problem.
Consequently, as requested in your e-mail, I am submitting a proposal based on the feedback given by my fellow-workers in the department. This proposal is aimed at fighting a kind of absenteeism which, in my opinion, can be easily prevented.
According to last year's figures, more than the 60 per cent of the people who skipped at least 3 working days in a row are parents of under-4-year-old children. And what is still more worrying is the fact that these figures are increasing at a rate of 5 per cent every year.
This can be attributed to several causes that should be taken into account, such as the fact that some people, especially single and divorced parents, sometimes cannot afford to pay a day nursery. In addition, in many cases, our schedule does not fit that of the nursery's. We understand that although our schedule is flexible to conform to our daily working demands, this does not mean that anything around us has to adjust to our needs.
All points considered, I do feel very strongly that a nursery service at the company would not only put an end to this kind of labor absenteeism, but that it would also allow the company to improve dramatically its employees' welfare. This measure would have obvious advantages.
First, since the company owns several empty rooms in the building, no large investment should be made in terms of finding premises. Moreover, an affordable fare paid by users would only too well finance the caretaking personnel hiring and the room enabling. Last but not least, the measure would undoubtedly encourage employees to work more efficiently, because they would no longer be worried about nursery timetables. They would arrive punctually and they would not rush out to pick up their children. They would be more focused at work and much quieter, knowing that their children are in the same building. Also, they would be able to visit them in their coffee break, especially when their children were ill.
Summarizing, I am absolutely convinced that a kindergarten at the company would play a key role in preventing labor absenteeism, and that is why I trust the proposal will be given due consideration.
Yours sincerely
