Malls Changing Our City Life
Nowadays in the region of Madrid there is a great deal of malls. This situation is having a huge impact in the towns and cities of the region.
First of all, I would like to highlight how our lifestyle has changed. People have full time jobs and they spend most of the weekdays out working or getting to work. So they go shopping on weekends. Another reason for the increase in the number of the malls is leisure activities. Apart from useful for shopping, malls have also become spaces to have fun in.
On the negative side, the cities and towns near malls reduce their number of local markets and shops. One of the consequences is the losing of a source of jobs. Another one is the emptiness of the street life because people prefer malls to local shops.
All of these aspects involve negative consequences for the environment as well because we depend on the car to get to malls. Then, the attractively arranged aisles of products invite us to consume more than we really need. Moreover, supermarkets sell wrapped food and this packaging increases the amount of waste that will be sent to landfills.
In conclusion, the great increase of malls has changed our cities, and it has also negative effects on the environment. Consequently, we need to think and find a balance.
