Dear cousin Jack,
How are you? My best wishes for you and your family.
I was watching TV and suddenly I saw a farm that reminded me our childhood. Do you remember grandfather's big house near the village? How nice the August light enveloping our plays and smiles! Can you see those golden sunrises or smell the green grass with your imagination? These memories are capable of bringing us the wonderful morning of our lives.
Grandmother used to cook a big cake for us, do you recall that? It tasted as delicious as the most expensive dish in the most sumptuous restaurant. In Grandma's opinion, the main ingredient of those cakes was love. How I miss her! The Lost Paradise of our innocence…
I can also remember that you preferred to go for a swim rather than play in the garden. Grandpa told us that you would be a champion someday, and he was right.
During the summer of 1989 we used to watch sports on TV, so we didn't need to go to the village to have a good time. Anyway, one day your mother gave us some money to buy a novel called To Kill a Mockingbird. I think Harper Lee's moving story was probably the beginning of my career as a writer.
I also remember once I fell ill and the doctor said that I should rest for at least a week. I remember that he asked me how old I was. It was so boring, but you helped a lot, finding alternatives. You suggested that I could dictate a tale for you to write them down. Grandpa made you use his old fountain pen. After a few days we went on to read our creation in the presence of the family. I tried to say something but couldn't.
For all of these memories I cherish, thank you, dear.
Take good care of yourself.
Your cousin, M. |
