A Quiet Sunday Afternoon, by N. (Av2, 2009-2010) – 250 words
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon and they were patrolling the city in their police car. It was a hot summer afternoon and nobody was in the streets at five.
At some point, the police station reported that a woman was being abused by her husband. They rushed to the place.
The woman was waiting for them on the first floor landing. She told them that her husband was in the flat, really nervous, and that he wanted to kill her with two big kitchen knives.
When they all entered the flat, they found the woman's husband in the far end of the kitchen holding the knives. The man told the police officers to go away and as they didn't, he threw them first one knife and then the other. As he didn't hit them, he then threw them ammonia and lighted matches. He managed to wet their uniforms but all of his lighted matches missed their target. He kept at it: then he threw them olive oil and more lighted matches but he kept failing. Finally, he opened the cupboard where the bottle of butane gas was and took another knife.
In that very moment the four police officers jumped over him to reduce him. And then it happened: as the floor of the kitchen was full of ammonia and olive oil all of them slipped once and again – which, in spite of the drama, looked like a comedy.
Eventually, they did manage finally to arrest him!
