Sherman Alexie's novel: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
A FRESH NEW NOVEL RECOMMENDED TO OPEN ADULTS' MINDS
Sherman has written from a new point of view about Indians for all of us. He has given fresh air in this novel, not only through little Junior's words, but also through the things that he is able to reflect on the hard life in Indian reservations.
Junior is an Indian boy who has to fight against his body limits at first, his family, the social context "on the rez" as well, and finally, against the social differences in his "white" high school.
Sherman's capability to make the reader feel while depicting the life and thoughts of Junior is formidable. He also succeeds in making believable his deep and mature way of understandind the changes in his society.
If you think you know everything about feeling, you can always read it, you will still be surprised, and something not common nowadays… he shows us another communication tool, that of using a straightforward, sincere and acid language in the face of a very hard social context!
I'm sure this book will make an ideal stocking filler!
