The aim of this report is to evaluate the main causes and effects of climate change. It will also include some advice to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere.
The Evidence: Climate is changing
Nowadays, Global Warming has become a major issue we cannot ignore.
Due to greenhouse gases (GHGs), temperatures have reached unprecedented levels. Scientific studies suggest temperatures are likely to increase between 1.1 and 6.4ºC by the end of this century. Considering these changes on warming patterns, they have concluded that human action is responsible for it.
Effects of Global Warming
* More water
The heat is already causing many natural disasters. Year after year, there are more melting ice caps. As a consequence, sea levels have risen startingly.
Global Warming also means precipitations. Rainfalls come down in deluges, destroying coastlines. Besides, this causes rivers bursts their banks and floods cannot be controlled.
* Other effects
As summers are growing drier and hotter, there are long periods of water shortages. Not only droughts — tropical cyclones, hurricanes and tsunamies are more frecuent nowadays.
Heatwave effects can also be extremely dangerous in terms of causing wildfires, deforestation or the reduction of available freshwater.
However, other human actions are putting at risk the planet, such as illegal logging or wildlife trades.
What can we do?
There is no doubt that the CO2 emissions produced by cars are endangering the planet. As a result, it is advisable to use bikes, public transportation and avoid short journeys by car.
Besides, it would be important to turn off electrical appliances completely when they are not being used. Energy-saving light-bulbs are also highly recommended.
It seems almost impossible to hold back Climate Change, but if we work hard we can change our future.
