An Informal Letter by Vera Lucía Rodrigues (Av2 Mon, 2009-10) - About 275 words
Dear Michelle,
I hope you are well.
As I told you on my last setter I managed to book my dreamed holiday. Now, I am writing to tell you about it...
When I got to my dream destination, it was cold and windy, scarcely the day to go for a walk on that long beach. It was cold and a big storm was approaching, but I decided I wouldn't stay locked in my room hotel. I had worked hard the whole year through and I had been looking forward to my holiday – I deserved it! On the top of that, I had chosen an island in middle of Atlantic sea because of its warm climate! Never would I have imagined I would experience a natural disaster when I had to run away to my hotel.
During the night it didn't rain, but the next morning the air was wet. Suddenly, it began to drizzle but a heavy downpour quickly developed, and it wouldn't stop until the night. Definitely, it was very dangerous to go outside. There was thunder and lightning and torrential rain. Streets had become a violent river in which it was possible to go white-water rafting. Through the window I saw how cars were swept away and trees crashed into lamp posts. The following day it was said that some people had lost their lives.
It was the worst holiday in my life. I spent the rest of week in the hotel without electricity or water, waiting for the roads to be cleared of the mud and fallen trees.
Enough of this. What about your holiday? I'm looking forward to seeing you asap! You have to tell me all about it.
Warm greetings,
...
