New Jobs in Times Of Crisis, by Kris (Av2, 2010-11) – 325 words
Nowadays we are facing an economic crisis that is causing the close-down of many businesses and as consequence, the increase of unemployment. Considering these facts, this time is hard for people to get a job or even keep it.
This proposal is aimed at fighting unemployment. More steps also need to be taken to prevent it and reduce it, mainly by modifying some measures taken by the Government.
Benefits to banks
Last year, the Spanish Government spent millions bailing out banks, to solve their financial problems. Nevertheless, this did not result in what was expected. I am convinced that it would have been better to give the money to small- or medium-size businesses because these bring money to their owners, create new jobs and benefits for the country as a whole.
Early retirement
It is not logical to suggest delaying the age of retirement when most people are retiring before the legal age. It is a high financial burden for Spain. As a consequence the Government should change the law to making people give up work at legal age. It would be more advantageous to keep the legal age, 65 years old, and use the money to hire more people.
Road works to create jobs
Because of the reduction of new constructions, local Council and State Government have created road works everywhere in order to take on unemployed workers. Unfortunately, this is for short periods and the help this measure brings about is not enough to solve unemployment. It would be better to create jobs in order to start constructions that we really need.
Most citizens believe that these ideas would produce benefits if the Government starts to help workers and small- and medium-size businesses instead of supporting banks and Councils, thus wasting our taxes.
I am absolutely convinced that it is worth trying to implement all of these measures, for they would strengthen the labour market and this would allow us to overcome the economic crisis. |
