This Oral Presentation consisted of the following:
Among the range of TV serials the team composed by: David Sáez, Ana Isabel Romero, Virginia Pérez, Daniel Planells, and María Castaño, have chosen The Office, for different reasons. All of us agreed on it and found on the language and expressions selected from the episode a source of interest to enrich our own vocabulary. Moreover, we found in it an interesting aid that might contribute to assist us in the hypothetical case of a fire any medical emergency situation that might occur.
Describing our Oral Presentation
First, there was an Introduction of the TV serial presented by David Sáez. Second, a general view of the target episode, "Stress relief" by Ana Romero.
As the characters are also important, Virginia Pérez gave us a description of their personalities.
After having met and commented on the words and expressions, we agreed on a selection of the language that finally would be presented during the OP on Dec 10th 2010. The words and expressions were distributed among us in a random way. And all of these words and expressions were presented copied on the board the during the Oral Presentation. During the presentation by a team member, another member would be writing on one side of the board the written form of the expressions which would be read out loud by another speaker. This part has been performed orderly by us all.
Medical Emergency Terms: Here were presented those terms specifically related to health, organs, diseases and protocol terminology appearing in the episode. To complement this we designed two posters: one with the ABC (Air-Breathing-Circulation) about the procedures in the medical emergency protocol and another one giving instructions on how to evacuate our own school. The presentation of this part was carried out by María Castaño.
Next came the video, a clip from the episode was presented. It deals with a practical lesson on how to breathe life into someone for the staff in the office. To work with this material, we had two little piles of questions: first one addressed to our schools mates asking them to infer what was going to happen next. And second a selection of questions for them to check their own understanding of the sequence. This part was carried out by Daniel Planells.
Another kind of contribution immediately after was a song. In the episode, while doing the chest compressions to help the victim’s heart start pumping again, The Bee Gee’s song Staying Alive is sang, with a purpose to encourage trainees to do a rhythmical press on the collapsed heart. Copies of the fill-in-the-gap version of the song were given out. This part was conducted by David Sáez.
The Oral Presentation concluded with some comments on the poster on a hypothetical emergency evacuation at our Language School; and a copy of these materials was finally given to the teacher. |
