Proposal for  Better Public Transport in El Bercial, by Virginia Pérez Domínguez (Av2 Mon, 2010-11) – 255 words

The aim of this proposal is to report the public transport problem faced by the neighbourhood El Bercial, located in Getafe, and ask for a change.

To begin with, I would like to mention the bus service. This service is precarious considering the growth of the neighbourhood in the last years due to new building. Now, we are more citizens than ever. At present, our buses run every half an hour, so I suggest a change in the bus schedule ─ a bus every ten or fifteen minutes would improve this situation.

Another problem is that the underground station is too far away from the neighbourhood centre. The metro was built the nearest possible to a Hipercor supermarket. This is a serious drawback for the people who have been living in El Bercial for years, for it takes them about twenty minutes to get from the centre to the metro and over thirty minutes if coming from the new area. Due to long distances between where people live and the metro area, most of them need to take a bus to get to the underground station! In my opinion, it would be necessary to build a new station in the oldest part of the neighbourhood, for the improvement of residents' lives in the neighbourhood.

The obvious conclusion to be drawn from these facts is that it is necessary to make El Bercial residents' life easier by putting an end to the nightmare of mobility in the neighbourhood.
